Quilting club keeps growing, and going….

This is Evelyn’s sister, Ellen, completed on 11/10/11. An avid quilter, Ellen heads off to her quilting club meeting, where she will put the finishing touches to her small quilt. Dressed in stylish skirt and tee shirt, her alpaca hair freshly ‘done’, handmade earrings and bracelet, necklace of threads, custom-made shoes of polymer clay, and secure on her removable stand, Ellen is well equipped, from wrist pin cushion, scissors, rotary cutter, and hoop, to a basket full of fabrics, batting, books, needles, thimble, and more, even her some-times needed ‘reading glasses’! Ellen, like all the rest of us, is a one-of-a-kind, unique personality.

Ellen obviously lives in present-day fast lane! I took her to the shop on Friday (the 11th) and she had moved on (was sold) on Saturday, the 12th.

Another quilter in the house!

Evelyn, the quilter, is 21 inches tall. She has her basket all packed with fat quarters, batting, and all the accessories she’ll need for her afternoon with the quilting club. She needs to put a few finishing touches on her latest small-quilt project. Her hair is wool roving, her dress made from a scarf, and she wears comfy sneakers. (Her ankles are a bit swollen from all those hours she stands at her work table, but ohh, she does enjoy it!) (click images to enlarge and see those details!)

Nativity Set Pattern is Ready!

Well, it’s ready enough for a preliminary run. ;)

Today I will put the finishing touches on the pattern for the Nativity set (below)!

It will be available on CD. With all nine figures included, (8 bottle-toppers plus the newborn infant), it would be a very large packet. By grouping it into several pdf files, the needed parts can be printed accurately. It will include pattern pieces for the dolls (four pages), and for all the costumes (14 pages). Plus another 12 pages of instructions, illustrated with color pictures.

This pattern is an intermediate level, requires some experience in dollmaking: faces, hair, etc.

Email me to order a copy. Make a set for your mantel! Or a great gift!

A NEW STORY…about the queen of the household. You’ll find it on the STORIES page.

This is a 2 page pdf file. Zoom in for easy viewing and reading, or print, if you wish. As with all my original writing, you may link to it, but please do not re-publish it.

A Picture Book

I have not made any new dolls this summer, so far, but made up a sort of memory book from my ‘portraits’ of those from the past few years. This book was created at the website, Mixbook. I like the options they offer. I only bought one copy, but you may ‘read’ it here: http://www.mixbook.com/photo-books/interests/little-people-big-personalities-5627601

The Photographers

Photos by Spouse, Class of 53 reunion

One of my favorite pictures, taken at a class reunion a few years ago. We members of the class were lined up for the picture, and the spouses were doing the honors. I just couldn’t resist returning the favor.  I have sometimes titled this picture as “The Photographers” .   ( Be sure to ‘click’ for a little  larger view.) This is a scan of an inkjet print, original image was better. This was 5 or 6 years ago. Anyone know for sure?

Rain, rain, rain….

Rain, rain, go AWAY!
Spot and Sabrina want to play.
They wake up and request that I open the door
and back off and frown at the ‘wet’ they abhor.

Enough of Sky weeping,
and Me puddle-leaping!
Lights on and cats sleeping
on the sofa all day!

Enough flashing and rumbling!
Clouds griping and grumbling!
And sturdy oaks tumbling!
Rain, Rain, Go AWAY!

Save some for MAY!
Today is SUN-day!

Well, maybe this afternoon…..???

I’ll miss them!

You love them and are not quite sure whether to cheer or cry when they are sold!  I took Allice-Mae to the shop Thursday, and she was sold on Saturday along with Cecelia, who had been there quite a while. Cecelia was made from Arley Berryhill’s pattern, Minerva, with my addition of the moon. Stella also was adopted last week, to adorn an attorney’s office desk! Hmmmm, you just never know…..

From trash to treasure…

Allice-Mae Dover is made of recycled items. Starting with a leg from an old pair of outgrown jeans, stuffed with plastic grocery bags, sleeves made of an old dresser scarf, doily collar, a refurbished doll wig, and a botched-up head, I un-did the sculpting stiches, and redid them lightly, then painted over the whole face and drew on new features. All-in-all, I’ve very happy with the results. Her earrings are part of a child’s bracelet. Only new materials used were  the dolskin for her hands and poly stuffing for the upper torso and arms. She was fun to make, ‘design-as-you-go’,  and I felt I liked her best without a lot of embellishment.
